Cessna Citation Encore+

Cessna Citation Encore+

The Citation Encore+ replaced the Encore in 2006 and is the largest of the straight-wing Cessna Citation series of aircraft, belonging to the same category of light business jets. Due to the launch of the CJ4, production of the Encore+ was brought to an end in 2008, yet in spite of such a short period of manufacture, the Encore+ became a very popular corporate jet. The cabin is similar in size to that of a CJ4 and larger than that of all the other aircraft in the Citation CJ range, easily seating up to 7 passengers in a variety of different configurations, the most common being a Club 4, two individual seats situated side by side and an additional rear-facing seat at the front of the cabin. The Encore+ is capable of a similar range and maximum cruise speed as the CJ3, therefore asserting itself as a high-performance jet that provides an excellent service.

The Citation Encore+ represented the evolved version of Cessna's Citation Encore, which was first announced in 1998. The original Encore entered production in 2000 with upgraded Pratt & Whitney PW535 turbofans, delivering enhanced performance over earlier Citation models.

Cessna developed the Encore+ as an improved variant, incorporating customer feedback and technological advances from the original Encore's operational experience. The aircraft featured enhanced systems and performance improvements while maintaining the proven Encore platform.

Production of the Encore+ ran from 2006 to 2011, following the original Encore's production cycle from 2000 to 2006. The aircraft continued the Citation family's tradition of combining reliable operations with single-pilot certification capability.

The Encore+ served as an important bridge in Citation evolution, providing operators with improved performance and updated systems. The aircraft contributed to the Citation family's success, which by 2022 had delivered over 8,000 aircraft and logged more than 41 million flight hours, establishing the largest business jet fleet in the world.

How does the Citation Encore compare to the Citation CJ3?

The Cessna Citation CJ3 is a lighter, more fuel-efficient jet with a slightly shorter cabin and an NBAA IFR range of 3,222 km (1,740 nm). The Citation Encore, by contrast, has a heavier airframe, more powerful engines, and stronger takeoff performance. While the CJ3 is often chosen for its lower operating costs and efficiency, the Encore provides a sturdier feel and greater cabin volume for passengers.

How many passengers can the Citation Encore carry and what is the cabin like?

The Cessna Citation Encore seats 7 passengers (standard configuration) in a layout combining club seating with forward-facing seats. Its elongated cabin, compared to earlier models, is designed to feel more open, with indirect lighting and smooth wall panels. Amenities such as a refreshment centre, private lavatory, and optional entertainment systems enhance comfort for both business and leisure travel.

What is the range of the Cessna Citation Encore?

The Cessna Citation Encore has an NBAA IFR range of 3,098 km (1,673 nm) without refuelling. This permits nonstop routes such as Paris to Athens or London to Marrakech. Actual performance varies depending on passenger load, weather, and cruising altitude.

Where does the Citation Encore fit within the Citation family?

The Cessna Citation Encore sits in the light jet category and represents an evolution of the Citation Ultra. It comes with improved engines, a longer cabin, and greater baggage capacity than its predecessor. Within the Citation line, it is positioned between entry-level jets such as the Citation CJ1 or CJ2 and larger midsize aircraft like the Citation Excel or Citation XLS.

How does the Citation Encore compare to the Citation Ultra?

The Citation Encore is powered by Pratt & Whitney PW535A engines, giving it stronger performance and lower operating costs than the Ultra. It also comes with a longer cabin and more baggage space. While the Ultra remains efficient on short hops, the Encore extends the scope to longer routes.
