Gulfstream G450

Gulfstream G450

The G450 entered into service in 2004 to replace the GIV and GIV-SP models and, although it is smaller than the G550, belongs to the same category of Super Large Jets. As a member of the Gulfstream family, the G450 is a high-performance aircraft, being both extremely fast and offering a good range. For example, it is capable of direct flights from Geneva to New York and can undertake these flights in much less time than the average Super Large business jet. In spite of such high speeds and engine power, the cabin remains tranquil and comfortable. The spacious interior accommodates up to 14 passengers in 3 separate seating areas and the aft galley produces VIP catering during the flight. Overall, Gulfstream combines performance and luxury in the G450 to get you to your destination quickly and comfortably.

In 2001, Gulfstream began developing an improved version of the GIV-SP, originally designated GIV-X. The aircraft represented a significant advancement in avionics and performance compared to its predecessor.

The G450 made its first flight on April 30, 2003, beginning a comprehensive test programme. Production commenced in October 2004, replacing the G400 in Gulfstream's lineup with enhanced capabilities.

The aircraft received FAA Type Certificate on August 12, 2004, followed by both EASA Type Certificate and FAA Production Certificate in November 2004. Customer deliveries began in May 2005.

The G450 enjoyed a successful 12-year production run, with 365 deliveries completed before the last aircraft was delivered on January 19, 2018. The aircraft was replaced by the G500, ending a 30-year production run that established Gulfstream's dominance in the large-cabin category.

Does the G450 have more range than the G350?

Yes, the G450 has significantly more range than the G350. The G450 achieves 8,056 km (4,350 nautical miles) compared to the G350's range of approximately 7,032 km (3,797 nautical miles). This additional 1,024 km of range allows the G450 to complete longer non-stop flights, such as London to Los Angeles or Paris to Dubai, which the G350 cannot accomplish without refuelling. However, both aircraft share similar speed performance and cabin dimensions, with the choice often depending on whether the extra range capability justifies the higher operating costs.

How many passengers can the G450 accommodate?

The G450 can accommodate up to 14 passengers in its spacious cabin, which is divided into three separate seating areas. The aircraft typically features a forward seating section, a mid-cabin lounge area, and an aft cabin arrangement, allowing passengers to work, dine, or rest in different zones during the flight. The cabin's generous dimensions provide stand-up headroom throughout, whilst the aft galley enables full catering services for longer journeys.

What is the cruise speed of the G450?

The Gulfstream G450 cruises at 882 km/h (476 knots), making it one of the faster aircraft in the super large jet category. This impressive speed allows the G450 to complete intercontinental flights efficiently, such as covering the distance from London to New York in approximately 8 hours. The aircraft's high-speed cruise capability stems from its twin Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8C engines, which provide the power necessary for both speed and altitude performance.

What is the range of the G450?

The Gulfstream G450 has an NBAA IFR range of 8,056 km (4,350 nautical miles), enabling true intercontinental capability. This range allows for non-stop flights such as Geneva to New York or London to Dubai without refuelling stops. The G450's substantial range makes it ideal for executives who need to travel directly between major business centres across continents, eliminating the delays and inconvenience of technical stops.

What makes the G450's production history significant?

The G450 enjoyed a successful 13-year production run from 2005 to 2018, with exactly 365 aircraft delivered before production ended. As the successor to the GIV and GIV-SP models, the G450 represented a significant advancement in avionics and performance whilst maintaining the proven Gulfstream design philosophy. The aircraft bridged the gap between Gulfstream's earlier generation and the new G500/G600 family, incorporating modern systems whilst retaining the reliability that made Gulfstream's reputation. This production history means charter passengers have access to well-maintained aircraft with established support networks worldwide.
