Figures cover 1 January to 31 December 2025. The figures include private and business jets, VIP aircraft and turboprops. Helicopters and scheduled airline flights are excluded. The data was generated on 14 October 2026. This generation date is separate from the activity year.

Definitions: A private aviation movement is one recorded departure or arrival at an airport serving a city. A flight between Munich and another city counts once in Munich’s route total, whether arriving or departing. A return flight counts as a separate movement. A connected city is a distinct city with at least one qualifying private aviation flight to or from Munich during 2025. The connected-city count covers the routes included in this dataset, not just those displayed in the table.

Busiest periods: Busiest periods identify a significant seasonal concentration in recorded movements in both directions during 2025. Isolated spikes are filtered out. Year-round means no qualifying seasonal concentration was identified, although activity can vary between months. A classification requires at least 30 annual movements, 99% statistical significance and an average monthly activity rate at least 1.75 times the rest of the year. Single-month periods also require recurrence checks using January to August 2026 records.

Three airports serve private jets around Munich. Munich Airport (MUC/EDDM) is the main one and takes every aircraft type. Oberpfaffenhofen (OBF/EDMO) is a business airfield west of Munich, with its own rules on aircraft size and Sunday flying. Augsburg Airport (AGB/EDMA) lies 72 km from central Munich and mainly suits trips to Augsburg and western Bavaria.

Private aviation facilities

Munich Airport's General Aviation Terminal is on the eastern side of the airport and opens from 06:00 to 22:00. Five handlers work there, including ExecuJet, Signature Flight Support and Lufthansa Technik. Oberpfaffenhofen takes business flights only. Every arrival and departure needs prior permission, and flights to or from non-Schengen countries must be registered at least 5 hours ahead. Augsburg clears customs and immigration on site.

Slot constraints & peak demand

Every private flight at Munich Airport needs a slot from Fluko, the German coordinator, because the airport is Level 3 coordinated. Slots are best requested early for the Security Conference in February and for Oktoberfest. Oberpfaffenhofen works on prior permission instead and is closed on Sundays and public holidays, apart from up to 200 approved movements a year. Augsburg is not slot-coordinated and is open from 07:00 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday and from 09:00 on Sundays.

Transfers & airport choice

Munich Airport is 35 to 45 minutes from central Munich by car (40 km). Oberpfaffenhofen is 30 to 40 minutes away (26 km) and takes aircraft up to 25 tonnes, plus the Falcon 7X, the Bombardier Global Express family and the Gulfstream G550 family. Long range jets were 16% of Munich Airport's flights in 2025 and 5% of Oberpfaffenhofen's. Augsburg Airport is 15 to 20 minutes from central Augsburg (8 km) and 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes from central Munich (72 km).

For most trips the day and the aircraft decide. A Sunday or holiday charter, or a long range jet outside the Oberpfaffenhofen list, goes to Munich Airport. A weekday charter on a smaller jet can use either, and Oberpfaffenhofen saves a few minutes into the centre. Augsburg only makes sense when Augsburg or western Bavaria is the destination.

The Englischer Garten, larger than New York's Central Park, stretches from the centre of Munich to the north-east of the city. The Deutsches Museum stands on an island in the Isar, and BMW Welt and the BMW Museum face each other beside the Olympiapark. The Residenz and Nymphenburg Palace were the Wittelsbach rulers' city and summer residences. The Munich Opera Festival runs each summer into July, and Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig II's castle, is a day trip from Munich.

When is private jet demand highest in Munich?

Private jet activity to and from Munich remains distributed across the year, but 2025 data show a clear early-summer high from May to July and a further rebound in September. These periods coincide with Bavaria’s Pentecost travel period and recurring major events such as IAA Mobility and Oktoberfest.

During periods of higher demand, the choice of aircraft, preferred departure times, parking and ground transfers may become more limited. Earlier booking generally provides more options, although last-minute flights may still be possible with flexibility around timing or airport choice.

Which airport and FBO will be used for my private jet flight to Munich?

The airport, private terminal or handling setup depends on the aircraft, schedule, final destination and local availability. Munich Airport is generally the main international option for private jet flights to and from Munich, with a dedicated General Aviation Terminal and established handling support for private and business aviation.
