Gulfstream G280

Gulfstream G280

Gulfstream renamed the G250 as the G280, numerically irregular when looking at the rest of the series, as, in Chinese culture, the number 250 is considered negative and the American company wished to demonstrate their understanding of foreign cultures and how highly they value their international customers. Name aside, this Super Midsize jet has captured global attention since its launch in 2012 for its incredible performance.

The G280 has an excellent range of over 6600km, further than its Cessna, Bombardier and Hawker rivals, and is extremely fast, having set a number of new city-pairing records. Gulfstream believes that it also has the best fuel efficiency in its category and challenges anyone to find a more comfortable cabin. The interior of the G280 is not only larger and more spacious than its competitors, accommodating up to 9 passengers in a Club 4 formation, three-seater sofa and two additional seats, but it also offers state-of-the-art technology to create a silent cabin environment. The G280 truly represents a perfect combination of style and substance and provides the most complete service of any aircraft in its class.

In 2005, Gulfstream and Israel Aircraft Industries began designing a follow-on aircraft to the G200. The new model, originally known as the "G250", was launched in 2008 to continue Gulfstream's presence in the mid-size category.

The aircraft made its maiden flight on December 11, 2009, in Tel Aviv, Israel, beginning an extensive certification programme. The development demonstrated successful international collaboration in business jet design and manufacturing.

In July 2011, the G250 was renamed G280, as Gulfstream determined that G280 represented a more favorable number sequence in certain cultures. The aircraft received provisional certification from Israel in December 2011.

Customer deliveries began in 2012, providing operators with enhanced performance compared to the G200. The G280 featured modern avionics, improved engines, and updated cabin systems while maintaining the operational flexibility that made its predecessor successful in the mid-size market.

How many passengers can the G280 accommodate?

The G280 seats 8 passengers in its standard configuration, with the flexibility to accommodate up to 10 passengers when required. The aircraft features a spacious cabin measuring 7.87 metres in length, 2.11 metres in width, and 1.85 metres in height, providing ample space for passenger comfort during extended flights.

Is the G280 faster than the Embraer Praetor 600?

Yes, the G280 is faster than the Praetor 600. The G280 cruises at 850 km/h whilst the Praetor 600 operates at 863 km/h, giving the Gulfstream a speed advantage of 56 km/h. However, the Praetor 600 offers greater range at 7,441 km compared to the G280's 6,667 km range, making each aircraft suitable for different mission profiles.

What is the cruising speed of the G280?

The Gulfstream G280 cruises at 850 km/h (459 knots), making it one of the fastest aircraft in the super midsize jet category. This high-speed performance enables efficient point-to-point travel, reducing journey times on both short and medium-haul routes.

What is the maximum range of the G280, and which city pairs can it connect?

The G280 offers an impressive NBAA IFR range of 6,667 km (3,600 nautical miles). This capability allows non-stop flights between major city pairs such as London to New York, Dubai to Frankfurt, or Singapore to Tokyo, making it highly suitable for intercontinental business travel without requiring fuel stops.

What makes the G280's cabin environment distinctive?

The G280 features state-of-the-art technology designed to create an exceptionally quiet cabin environment. Gulfstream has incorporated advanced soundproofing and cabin systems that significantly reduce noise levels, allowing passengers to work, rest, or hold conversations comfortably throughout the flight. The cabin can be configured in a Club 4 formation with a three-seater sofa and two additional seats, providing flexible seating arrangements for various travel requirements.
