Hire a Private Jet to or from Dubai
Most private jets to Dubai use Al Maktoum International rather than Dubai International, despite DXB being closer to the city centre. DXB operates under a tightly controlled slot system, which can restrict flexibility around departure and arrival times.
Al Maktoum International, at Dubai World Central near Jebel Ali, operates around the clock. Flights still require schedule clearance from Airport Coordination Limited and landing permission from Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.
The main consideration is ground transfer time. Central Dubai is around 45 minutes away by car, compared with roughly 20 minutes from Dubai International. For schedules built around a meeting or onward connection, that difference should be factored in. The airport used for a specific flight will also depend on the aircraft and operator. LunaJets confirms the airport in advance and can arrange the ground transfer with the flight.

No single country defines Dubai's private jet traffic. Saudi Arabia is the busiest single source, yet it accounts for just 8.9% of Dubai's 22,885 flights in 2025. Even Riyadh, the busiest individual route, is only 6.1% of the total. The next closest countries, the UAE itself, India, Russia and Türkiye, sit close behind.

What the data shows
Dubai's large-cabin default

2,584 km
Median flight distance from Dubai
85.8%
Large-cabin jets' share of Dubai's flights
0.9%
Turboprops' near-absence from Dubai's fleet
Dubai's private jets fly a long way: the median flight covers 2,584 km, more than four times a typical European city's 556 km. That distance shapes which aircraft actually fly here. Large-cabin, long-range types, Bombardier's Global series, the Embraer Legacy family and the Challenger 600-series among them, carry 85.8% of Dubai's traffic, against a European average of 24.5%. Light jets, common on shorter European routes at 35.0% there, hold just 3.1% of Dubai's flights. Turboprops barely register at 0.9%, against a European 25.4%. The pattern holds even on short hops: Dubai's flight to Abu Dhabi, only around 140 km, still flies mostly large-cabin aircraft rather than something smaller. Chartering from Dubai, a large-cabin jet is the realistic default, and a light aircraft the exception.
Which airport is best for private jets?
Dubai's private jet traffic splits across three airports, and which one suits your flight depends mostly on timing. Al Maktoum International (DWC), out at Dubai World Central, takes the majority of movements and offers the most scheduling flexibility for private aviation. Dubai International (DXB) sits closer to Downtown Dubai and DIFC, though its schedule is tightly slot-coordinated. Sharjah International (SHJ), just north of Dubai, is a flexible alternative when the other two are constrained.
Preferred for business aviation
Al Maktoum International Airport
IATA:DWC
ICAO:OMDW
Central Dubai: 45-55 min by car (54 km)
Dubai International Airport
IATA:DXB
ICAO:OMDB
Central Dubai: 20-25 min by car (20 km). Central Sharjah: 25-35 min by car (18 km)
Sharjah International Airport
IATA:SHJ
ICAO:OMSJ
Central Dubai: 35-45 min by car (40 km). Central Sharjah: 15-20 min by car (16 km)
Private aviation facilities
Dubai's DWC offers the strongest private jet ecosystem, with multiple FBOs and VIP facilities, including Jetex, DC Aviation Al-Futtaim and ExecuJet. DXB also offers dedicated FBO access, while SHJ is a flexible alternative.
Slot constraints & peak demand
Private flights to Dubai International (DXB) need confirmed slots. At Al Maktoum International (DWC), operators also need schedule clearance from Airport Coordination Limited and landing permission from Dubai Civil Aviation Authority. Flight timings at both airports depend on approval and available capacity.
Transfers & airport choice
Choose DXB for Downtown Dubai, DIFC and airline connections, at the cost of a tighter schedule. Choose DWC for Dubai South and Jebel Ali, with an easier slot to book but a longer transfer. SHJ, north of Dubai, is the flexible fallback when either is constrained.
In Dubai, the trade-off is closeness against scheduling ease. DXB sits nearest to Downtown but runs the tightest slot system. DWC is the business aviation hub, though around 45 minutes out, and SHJ offers a flexible fallback to the north. Your advisor weighs the three against your timing and where you are headed in Dubai, then handles the booking end to end.
For private jet travellers
Things to do

Dubai offers a private desert safari as one of its most popular outings, usually with a luxury camp and a falconry display. Chartering a yacht off Palm Jumeirah is another common choice for a day on the water. A helicopter tour over the Burj Khalifa and the Marina gives a clear view of the skyline from above.
Where to stay

Dubai's luxury hotels cluster around Palm Jumeirah and the waterfront. The best known is the Burj Al Arab, with its sail-shaped tower and private beach. Atlantis The Royal and the various One&Only properties are also popular, both offering a private beach and a high level of service. Built around waterways in a traditional style, the Madinat Jumeirah complex offers a quieter alternative.
Where to dine

Dubai has several Michelin-starred restaurants, including Orfali Bros Bistro and Trèsind Studio, both known for their tasting menus. Many of Dubai's best tables are in DIFC, among them Zuma and La Petite Maison, which serves modern Mediterranean food. For something different, Ossiano at Atlantis The Palm serves dinner next to a large aquarium.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which airport and FBO will be used for my private flight to Dubai?
The airport and handling arrangement depend on your aircraft, schedule, final destination and local availability. Al Maktoum International Airport is generally preferred for business aviation, with private terminals and FBO services available from providers including Jetex, ExecuJet and DC Aviation Al-Futtaim.
Dubai International may be selected for central Dubai or commercial-airline connections, while Sharjah can provide additional flexibility for selected itineraries. Your advisor will confirm the final airport, FBO and handling arrangement before departure.
Further reading:
Can I connect between a private jet and a commercial flight at Dubai International?
Yes, subject to confirmed slots, handling arrangements and the timing of your onward flight. Dubai International may be particularly convenient when passengers need to connect with the airport’s commercial-airline network.
ExecuJet’s DXB facility can facilitate transfers between private aircraft and commercial flights. If your private jet uses Al Maktoum International instead, a separate ground transfer between DWC and DXB may be required.
Can LunaJets arrange VIP handling and ground transfers in Dubai?
Yes. LunaJets can coordinate VIP handling and ground transfers from Al Maktoum International, Dubai International or Sharjah to your hotel, residence, meeting venue or onward destination.
Depending on the confirmed FBO, services may include private lounges, customs and immigration assistance, baggage handling, catering and chauffeur-driven transfers to areas such as DIFC, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina or Dubai South.
What happens if slots or parking are limited in Dubai?
If your preferred slot, parking position or handling arrangement is unavailable, your LunaJets advisor can review alternative times, FBOs or airport options. Dubai International is particularly slot-sensitive and requires both landing permission and a confirmed airport slot for general aviation operations.
Al Maktoum International is generally better suited to business aviation, while Sharjah may be considered as an alternative depending on the aircraft, schedule, parking requirements and final destination.
Can I fly nonstop from Dubai on long-range routes such as London or New York?
Yes, with a suitable aircraft. Routes from Dubai to London, Paris and other major European cities can generally be flown nonstop using a selected super-midsize, large or long-range jet, depending on passenger numbers, luggage and operating conditions.
Dubai-New York will generally require an ultra-long-range jet. Final nonstop feasibility depends on the aircraft model, payload, weather, routing and required fuel reserves. Your advisor will confirm the most suitable aircraft for the specific itinerary.
