NBAA‑BACE 2022 outdoor display with businessmen and visitors browsing small aircraft and booths

What to Expect from NBAA-BACE 2022 in Orlando

The National Business Aircraft Association NBAA offers valuable insights on the latest developments in business aviation and advocates on behalf of the sector. The Association celebrates 75 years of service to business aviation this year.

Why attend NBAA-BACE?

This year’s National Business Aircraft Association Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) takes place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, from October 18-20. There are two aircraft static displays this year, an indoor display at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) and an outdoor aircraft static display at Orlando Executive Airport.

This major aviation event is an opportunity to see a wide assortment of business aircraft, including single-engine piston aircraft, turboprops, business jets of all sizes, rotorcraft and advanced air mobility aircraft. Nearly 1,000 companies will be at the NBAA-BACE this year.

Exhibitors include aircraft parts manufacturers, materials suppliers, maintenance and service providers, and technology companies.

The combined conference and exhibition also offer aviators an educational opportunity to learn more about the issues that affect General Aviation, including regulations, legal, and financial requirements. There is a full schedule of courses, seminars and workshops, some taking place before the Exhibition opens, from October 16-17.

Next-Gen Aviators, Aircraft and Technology

For the first time this year, the outdoor display NBAA-BACE also will host the NEXTGEN Aviators program. This STEM-focused initiative encourages students to pursue careers and opportunities in aviation.

Inside the exhibit hall at the OCCC, the indoor aircraft display will showcase several advanced helicopters.

The Emerging Technology Zone, by the main keynote stage at the OCCC, will feature an expanded lineup of advanced air mobility aircraft and emerging sustainable propulsion technologies—such as hydrogen and electric—which promise to deliver short-distance, zero-emissions transportation.

A stellar line-up of speakers

Astrophysicist, author and science commentator Neil deGrasse Tyson will be a keynote speaker on the opening day of NBAA-BACE in Orlando, FL. Tyson shares observations on the images from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, which captures stars and galaxies as far as 290 million light years from Earth. With NASA’s Artemis lunar mission developing, Tyson also offers his perspectives on the program.

Famed stock car racer Dale Earnhardt Jr., will also give a keynote speech, opening the first day of the 2022 NBAA-BACE in Orlando. With back-to-back NASCAR Infinity Series titles in 1998 and 1999, Earnhardt is a third-generation NASCAR champion, following the lead of his legendary father Dale Earnhardt Sr., and his grandfather Ralph Earnhardt. Dale Earnhardt has earned 26 victories during his racing career, including the 2004 and 2014 Daytona 500s.

Tammie Jo Shults, the captain of Southwest Flight 1380 who ensured her Boeing 737 aircraft landed safely after an uncontained engine failure which damaged the aircraft’s fuselage, saving the lives of 148 passengers and crew, will be a keynote speaker on day two of NBAA-BACE. Shults advocates for the aviation industry and served on the Department of Transportation’s Women in Aviation Advisory Board, and currently serves on the Pearl Harbor Aviation Board and the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation Board. She was honoured with the Wings Club of New York’s Outstanding Aviator Award for 2022 and was inducted into the International Aviation Hall of Fame.

Attendees will find a full lineup of aviation industry leaders and experts who will give speeches on topics of interest to members of the business aviation sector.

Lending Support to Florida

In the wake of Hurricane Ian, which struck Florida at the end of September, the NBAA and its members have mobilised business aviation to offer humanitarian assistance. Operators can register for the NBAA Humanitarian Emergency Response Operator (HERO) Database to support relief efforts.

Despite the storm’s impact on the west coast of the Sunshine State, the facilities for 2022 NBAA-BACE in Orlando, Orlando Executive Airport, and the Orange County Convention Center, were largely unaffected and Orlando is ready to host the event.
