From 13th-16th August, the Straits Course at Whistling Straits near Kohler, Wisconsin will host the PGA Championship. The course, which last held the event in 2010, is sculpted along 3km of windswept terrain by the Lake Michigan shoreline. It is characterised by large, deep bunkers and vast, rolling greens, replicating the seaside links courses of the UK & Ireland, and players will also have to contend with the unpredictable winds sweeping in off the lake. The course will test every aspect of a player’s skill and the unrivalled tension, atmosphere and drama of a major tournament is certain to provide an incredible spectacle.
Defending champion and world number 1, Rory McIlroy will be aiming to win his third PGA Championship title, having performed extremely well over the course in 2010, finishing just 1 shot off the winner, Martin Kaymer. His stiffest competition will come from the 21-year-old Jordan Spieth, the Texan ranked 2nd in the world having won both the Masters and the US Open. As always in a major championship the outcome remains very unpredictable and players such as 2014 Masters champion Bubba Watson, who played so well around the Straits Course in 2010, and Phil Mickelson, champion in 2005 who came up just short in last year’s PGA Championship, are certainly in with a chance.
