Venice International Film Festival
The Venice International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world that welcomes many of the most influential names in the film industry every year.
Taking place at the end of August and early September, the Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world, having been founded in 1932, and is one of the so-called ‘big three’ film festivals, along with Cannes and Berlin. The event takes place on the Venice Lido, an 11-kilometre long sandbar that is known as ‘the Golden Island’, thanks to its beaches, and is the location of some of the city’s finest hotels, as well as the Venice Casino. The festival acts as a showcase for the latest productions from both up-and-coming and internationally renowned, highly acclaimed directors and actors, celebrating cinema as an art form and promoting the film industry. Screenings take place in the historic Palazzo del Cinema, the perfect venue to host an event of such prestige, as well as other nearby sites. Attendees not only have the opportunity to see many of the latest releases from the world’s finest cinematographers and experience the wonderfully vibrant atmosphere of the city during the festival, but are also able to explore and discover Venice, a unique and remarkable city with a rich cultural heritage and stunning beauty.
